Here at UCSF there seems to be a rush to complete writing assignments before the Thanksgiving holiday. Now is the time you might need a refresher on how to format a paper in Word using EndNote or RefWorks. Use these excellent but brief online tutorials:

Which Version of EndNote Does the UCSF Library Teach?
At the moment we are still with version X. We have plans to upgrade our classrooms to X2 but the library's main teaching classroom, LC222, will not be available for a few months because of restructuring of the 2nd floor. So we have to wait a while before we can upgrate from X to X2. We will continue to provide EndNote training in another temporary location but I don't know yet if it's feasible to move from X to X2. There is a possibility that we can get X2 installed in another classroom, such as S165, but no definite dates yet. I'll keep people informed.
New EndNote Filter & Connection File to Capture PMCID (PubMed Central Identification Number)
As you may know, the new NIH Public Access Policy requires scientists to submit journal final peer-reviewed manuscripts that arise from NIH funds to PubMed Central(PMC). NIH funded authors are required to include the PMCID on reports and grant-related documents.
I've configured EndNote PubMed Filter and Connection Files to capture the PMCID. Until I can make them available as downloadable files you can contact me to request them. I can send as a file attachment which you can just download into the appropriate EndNote folder.

Transferring Records from PsycINFO to RefWorks
UCSF users cannot search databases such as PsycINFO from within RefWorks. You can only search databases from within RefWorks if they are free (e.g., library catalogs or PubMed).
There is however an easy way using the database's Direct Export feature that exports items directly from the results page of a PsycINFO database search into a RefWorks folder:
(i) Mark the records to be exported.
(ii) Click on the Save/Print/Email tab:
(iii) Click on the Export to RefWorks button:
(iv) Your records will appear in the Last Imported RefWorks folder.
PsycINFO Connection File for UCSF Users
I've modified the EndNote CSA Connection file so UCSF users can connect directly to the CSA PsycINFO database from within EndNote. Until I can make it available as a downloadable file from the UCSF Library's GALEN website you can send me an email to request it.
Let me know if you're using Windows or a Mac.
Note that I will be verifying that you're UCSF faculty, staff or student.

Single Document Formatting for RefWorks Windows
After this came up in a class I was teaching I thought I should remind RefWorks Windows users that Write-N-Cite III for Windows features single document formatting. So, if you have Write-N-Cite 2.0, which uses a two document format (draft and final), you might want to upgrade to Write-N-Cite III. To download the new version connect to the Write-N-Cite download site via the RefWorks Tools menu.
