EndNote X2 adds a new feature called "Smart Groups" that should turn out to be very useful. "Smart Groups" are user-defined groups of references that update automatically as references are added to a library. Thus, if you create a Smart Group for the author name "bishop," every time you add a record to EndNote that contains this name it will also automatically get added to the Smart Group.
For detailed information on creating and using Smart Groups see the Smart Groups section in the online manual under the EndNote Help menu.

What's the "Smart Goups" Feature in EndNote X2?
Bad News for Zotero Folks?
Thomson Reuters, the owner of the EndNote reference management software, has filed a $10 million lawsuit and a request for injunction against the Commonwealth of Virginia. Thomson alleges that GMU's Center for History and New Media reverse engineered Endnote and that the beta version of Zotero can convert (in violation of the Endnote EULA) the proprietary style files that are used by Endnote to format citations into the open CSL file format.

Nursing Information: Downloading References from the CINAHL Database
The fall quarter is under way here at UCSF and library staff are in the middle of giving students orientations to library resources. Here's a quick reminder to nursing and other students who are starting to use the CINAHL database: you can easily download references from CINAHL to either EndNote or RefWorks using the Direct Export feature.
In CINAHL:
1. From your search results select the references you wish to download by clicking on
ADD TO FOLDER.
2. Now click on FOLDER VIEW
3. Select references in folder.
4. Click on the EXPORT icon (it has a horizontal yellow arrow).
5. Select Direct Export to EndNote, ProCite, or
Reference Manager or Direct Export to
RefWorks
5. EndNote: the program will open and you'll
be prompted to select a library.
RefWorks: you'll be prompted to login to
your RefWorks account and references will be put in the Last Imported folder.
6. References should automatically appear in your library or folder.
These instructions are for CINAHL on the EBSCO platform.
Along with MEDLINE, CINAHL®, the Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, is one of the most comprehensive resources for the nursing and allied health literature. It indexes articles, books, book chapters, dissertations, audiovisuals, research instruments, etc., for the nursing and allied health fields.
UCSF students can access the CINAHL database here.
