Nursing Information: Downloading References from the CINAHL Database

The fall quarter is under way here at UCSF and library staff are in the middle of giving students orientations to library resources. Here's a quick reminder to nursing and other students who are starting to use the CINAHL database: you can easily download references from CINAHL to either EndNote or RefWorks using the Direct Export feature.

In CINAHL:

1. From your search results select the references you wish to download by clicking on
ADD TO FOLDER.
2. Now click on FOLDER VIEW
3. Select references in folder.
4. Click on the EXPORT icon (it has a horizontal yellow arrow).
5. Select Direct Export to EndNote, ProCite, or
Reference Manager
or Direct Export to
RefWorks

5. EndNote: the program will open and you'll
be prompted to select a library.
RefWorks: you'll be prompted to login to
your RefWorks account and references will be put in the Last Imported folder.
6. References should automatically appear in your library or folder.

These instructions are for CINAHL on the EBSCO platform.

Along with MEDLINE, CINAHL®, the Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, is one of the most comprehensive resources for the nursing and allied health literature. It indexes articles, books, book chapters, dissertations, audiovisuals, research instruments, etc., for the nursing and allied health fields.

UCSF students can access the CINAHL database here.
